REDI Seeks Rockville Businesses for Business Appreciation Week

City Leaders, Staff to Join REDI Visits to Rockville Companies April 3-7

Rockville, Maryland, March 1 – Rockville Economic Development, Inc.’s Rockville Business Appreciation Week 2017 is April 3-7.

Throughout the week teams of ambassadors comprising city leaders, city staff, and REDI representatives visit Rockville businesses to thank them for locating in the city and to introduce business owners to resources available to help their companies grow. REDI ambassadors visited over 50 companies during Business Appreciation Week 2016.

Business Appreciation Week, in its 12th year, is organized by Rockville Economic Development, Inc. (REDI). Businesses located within the city limits that are interested in having REDI visit during the week should contact Michael Stiefvater, REDI Business Development Manager, at stiefvater@RockvilleREDI.org or 301-355-2202 or visit www.rockvilleredi.org/baw2017

During the 45-minute site visits, a REDI staff member and several ambassadors meet with business owners and managers to discuss their company’s operations and any challenges that may be in the way of the company’s growth. The visits give REDI an indication of the economic climate in Rockville and offer business owners an opportunity to talk with REDI staff and partners, whose knowledge of public resources and industry connections could play a role in helping a company take the next step. Participating companies also receive publicity through REDI’s social media accounts and website.

Among the over 50 Rockville companies visited during Business Appreciation Week in 2016, 90 percent said a Rockville location enhances their business, 62 percent reported hiring at least one employee in the previous year and 71 percent reported an increase in revenue. Many companies cited the region’s quality workforce, easy access to Interstate 270, the Intercounty Connector and Metro, and Rockville’s outstanding quality of life as some of the top reasons why they continue to choose Rockville for their business.

Rockville is home to over 9,500 businesses, ranging from small family-owned establishments to major corporations that employ 72,500 people. The Rockville commercial market includes over 21 million square feet of space, which is nearly 15 percent of the total commercial space in Montgomery County. The business sector contributes $16.2 million in property taxes – about 40 percent of the total property taxes collected in Rockville.

REDI is a public-private partnership formed in 1997 by the City of Rockville to strengthen and broaden the city's economic base through business entrepreneurship, expansion, retention, and recruitment programs. REDI offers guidance and support to help businesses at all stages of growth launch, locate and expand in Rockville.
