Rockville to Celebrate Independence Day with Fireworks in King Farm

Celebration Includes Fireworks and Music

Rockville, Maryland, June 20 – Make plans to celebrate July Fourth with family and friends at the city’s annual Independence Day celebration on Tuesday, July 4.

Hosted by the Mayor and Council, the celebration is held annually at the 26-acre Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park, 1800 Piccard Drive, in King Farm, which offers easy access and ample free parking, with convenient exits within a short walk of fireworks viewing areas.

The celebration includes live music by the Rockville Concert Band at 6 p.m. and country artist Shane Gamble at 7 p.m., and a fabulous 20-minute fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. There is no rain date.

To prepare for the celebration, the Rockville Dog Park at Mattie J.T. Stepanek Park will be closed from 7 a.m. on Monday, July 3 until 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5. The fireworks safety zone, which includes the football fields, tennis courts, playground and parking lots, will be closed from noon on Monday, July 3 – Tuesday, July 4. There will be limited access to other parts of the park from Saturday, July 1 – Tuesday, July 4.

Parking will be available in lots on Shady Grove and Gaither roads and Piccard Drive, near the park. Several road closures are planned, and will encourage visitors to exit onto main roads, including Route 355, Shady Grove Road and Gude Drive. Rockville police will guide traffic to and from the designated lots before and after the event.
