Community Invited to Discuss Updates to Historic Resources Management Plan

Rockville, Maryland, April 16 — Revisions to Rockville’s 30-year-old Historic Resources Management Plan are well underway. Consultants, JMT, will talk about draft updates to the plan at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in the Mayor and Council Chambers.

The meeting will give the public the opportunity to hear about progress so far, and to comment and make suggestions as JMT continues working toward the final product.

The Historic Resources Management Plan outlines how Rockville’s historic buildings and areas are managed, including private homes designated as historic. Once finished, the plan will include a comprehensive database of frequently updated historic resources and feature a 10-year action plan, with detailed priorities and implementation steps for historic preservation in the future.

JMT has completed preliminary surveys of neighborhoods and properties, and has updated, revised and added on to the existing HRMP draft.

The new plan will be a living document that can be updated as required, while incorporating a narrative describing periods of Rockville’s development, lists of resources and methods of protection, and the implications for various stakeholders, such as the Mayor and Council, the Planning Commission, the Historic District Commission, Peerless Rockville, historic property owners and the public.

For more information on the plan update, contact preservation planner Sheila Bashiri at 240-314-8236, or sbashiri@rockvillemd.gov. Visit the HRMP update page on Rockville’s website at www.rockvillemd.gov/historicresources.
