The Police Department offers fingerprinting on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Fingerprinting costs $2.00 per resident and $5.00 for non-resident. No appointment is necessary, but you are required to bring the fingerprint cards that will be used.
 

Residents who want to ride along with a police officer may obtain a ride along application from the police department. Once it is completed and turned in at the Police Department, an Officer will contact you to set up a date and time for this worthwhile experience.
 

The Department is committed to maintaining a professional force; and in this regard if anyone has a complaint concerning an officer's actions, he/she is encouraged to speak with a Department representative about the incident. No one should feel that any sort of retaliation will come as a result of complaint. The department will diligently investigate the complaint and implement corrective measures if they are warranted.  
 

Police call takers are trained to get as much information as possible in order to determine the nature of the problem and its seriousness. For your information, while the police call taker is trying to obtain the necessary information, in most instances, they have already dispatched police vehicles to the scene. The information you provide will further assist towards your safety and that of the police officers.
 

All non-accident reports must be obtained from the Montgomery County Police Records Division located at 2350 Research Blvd. Their phone number is: 240-773-5340. The cost for a report is $10.00.

Accident reports, which were written by Rockville City Police Officers, can be obtained in person at the Rockville City Police Department, Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The cost for a report is $5.00.
 

You can report traffic-related problems in your neighborhood by calling 240-314-8900. Please provide information to the Call Taker about the location and nature of the problem, when it occurs, and whether you would like to have an Officer call you back. The problem will be forwarded to the appropriate unit for response and action (City Police Traffic Unit, City Traffic and Transportation division, or to Montgomery County if the problem lies outside City Limits).
 

Call the Police Department non-emergency number at 240-314-8900, and advise the call taker of the location and description of the vehicle. You can also submit an abandoned vehicle report online.  An Officer will check the vehicle to determine whether or not it can be legally on the street. If it is not legal, it will be tagged as an abandoned motor vehicle and scheduled for removal within 48 hours of being tagged.
 

You can report narcotics activity in your neighborhood online or by calling the Police Department at 240-314-8900.
 

The City of Rockville Police department does not take reports over the phone. We feel that it is important that an Officer respond to your home or business and talk with you directly while taking a report. 
 

If you received a traffic ticket and you feel that it was issued in error, then we encourage you to set up a hearing before a judge. To do this, do not pay the traffic ticket, the court will automatically mail you a court date within 30 days. 
 

Yes, the Police Department depends on citizens calling to report crimes or suspicious activity. The police person who takes your call will ask questions about the suspicious activity to determine its nature and ask for descriptions of the people involved. You may be asked if an officer or detective may contact you. Please call 240-314-8900 to report suspicious activity.
 

To report incidents involving animals call 240-314-8930. If an animal appears to be a threat to the safety of an individual, call 911.
 

While the noise is occurring, call the Police Department non-emergency number 240-314-8900.
 

State and Federal regulations prohibit officers from using the computer to retrieve information not related to investigative purposes, and the information can only be shared with law enforcement entities.
 

Sometimes an officer responding to an emergency call is cancelled and this is why he/she may appear to be using his/her lights to get through an intersection.
 

Officers generally do not actively get involved in civil disputes as they are not empowered by state statute to do so. These incidents are best dealt with by contacting an attorney or the courthouse. However, do not hesitate to call for an officer in any situation, as he/she will recommend some options available to you.
 

Officers are trained to utilize lighting techniques to illuminate a vehicle for the safety of themselves and the occupants of the vehicle, and it is not meant to be something that is annoying or a form of harassment.
 

The Department Policies are specific about an officer's driving habits, and forbids any violation of speed that is not related to police duties. Officers are allowed, as set by statute and Department Policy, to exceed at times, the speed limit only as it relates directly to a police call.
