Kids, Parks & Performing Arts
Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. • June 23 – July 28, 2009

This FREE family entertainment series – now in its 20th year - rotates to a different neighborhood park each week and offers a variety of hour-long performing arts experiences to delight ALL AGES.

Bring along a lawn chair or blanket for comfortable seating. All performances are held outdoors, weather permitting.

Chesapeake Saxophone EnsembleJune 23—Chesapeake Saxophone Ensemble

Saxophone Colors: Introducing the Saxophone Family
Listen to the versatile sounds of four different saxophones: soprano, alto, tenor and baritone and learn why these instruments are woodwinds, not brass. The musicians will lead the audience on an exploration of creativity, imagination, mood and feeling.

The Guzheng SocietyJune 30—The Guzheng Society

Experience Chinese culture through traditional guzheng music. Featured in the opening ceremonies of the Bejing Olympics, these unique zither-like instruments will entertain and fascinate children of all ages.

Spinny JohnsonJuly 7—Spinny Johnson, former Harlem Globetrotter

How the heck does he do that? Join Spinny Johnson for an upbeat, dynamic and hands-on program that features fun and incredible basketball skills while teaching the importance of education, respect, goal setting, determination and perseverance. Audience participation encouraged.

Charm City RidersJuly 14—Charm City and Heater Skate Board Demo Teams

The question is: will we get to see a nollie tray flip or a crooked grind? Straight from Baltimore, these two awesome teams will amaze and astound even the most jaded boarder. Learn some tricks and watch the team members fly.

David FisherJuly 21—David Fisher “The Rope Warrior”

“What Zorro is to the sword, David Fisher is to the rope!” says the Chicago Sun Times.    The Rope Warrior is the current Guinness World Record holder for the most "Rump Jumps" (jumping rope while reclining on his bottom) in one minute: 56. Come watch these astonishing tricks and try a few yourself.

Come out for this world music concert and experience musical styles from around the globe. This is a musical party with a message, a whirlwind of song and audience fun!
