 2009 Exhibits Call for Entries Registration Form

The City of Rockville celebrates its commitment to the arts through programs that reflect the diversity and vitality of the community. It is with great pride that the Glenview Mansion Art Gallery continues to showcase the finest artists in the region.

Glenview Mansion: Second Floor Gallery floorplanEligibility
OPEN TO ALL ARTISTS living and working in Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Virginia. Note: Former Glenview Mansion Art Gallery exhibitors must wait 2 years before reapplying – i.e. 2007 gallery exhibitors may apply in 2009 for opportunities in 2010.

New Entry Requirements
Complete the application form attached and return it with: images
(slides or digital burned on CD-R or CD-RWRW), image list, resume and optional materials by 5 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2008. Enclose Payment of $20 application/processing FEE by check made payable to the “City of Rockville.”

Gallery Space
The accompanying floor plan denotes exhibition space in the Glenview Mansion Art Gallery. This second floor gallery is accessible by stairs and elevator. Exhibition space is restricted to Gallery Rooms 1,2,3,4, connecting hallways and two glass-enclosed porches. The total gallery wall space can easily accommodate 50-80 average-sized wall pieces and/or a large number of free-standing works. All windows have protective UV film to prevent sun damage.

Selection Process
A juried selection process will be implemented through which all applications are reviewed by a panel consisting of artists and art professionals. The panel will select artists and create exhibits to be placed into the 2009 calendar schedule by the gallery director. An exhibit may reflect selection of one application or a combination of applicants.

Terms for Exhibit

  1. 1. Display area is restricted to gallery walls and pedestals. Room installations must comply with restrictive house rules. (No nails are allowed in the gallery’s plaster walls or hardwood floors. No painting of the walls is permitted.)
     
  2. All wall-displayed works of art must be suitably presented and equipped to be hung from the gallery’s rod hanging system. A framed work with a secure wire on the back is preferred. Other presentation options, per the gallery director’s approval are accepted. 
     
  3. Gallery pedestals will be provided to meet most display needs for free-standing works.
     
  4. Transportation for delivery and pick-up of works of art is the responsibility of the artist(s). 
     
  5. Installation of the works of art is a joint responsibility of the artist and the gallery director.
     
  6. Works exhibited are subject to approval by the gallery director.

Sales 
The City of Rockville will receive a 20% commission on all sales. Sales must go through the gallery director. Works may be “not for sale” at the direction of the artist.

Insurance
All works of art will be insured from theft and damage while on display for the duration of the exhibit in accordance with the City of Rockville policy: $100,000 maximum per show, $10,000 limit per individual artwork. It is recommended that works of art over $5,000 be appraised prior to exhibiting in order to substantiate value for full insurance coverage.

Promotion

  1. Glenview Mansion Art Gallery Web site will showcase each exhibit at www.rockvillemd.gov/arts/exhibits.htm. 
     
  2. An opening reception will be held for each exhibit.
     
  3. Invitations to the exhibit will be printed by the City of Rockville Graphics Division at no cost to the artist(s).
     
  4. Press releases for the exhibit will be sent out by the City of Rockville’s Public Information Office.
     
  5. The exhibit will be listed by the City of Rockville in galleries magazine, as well as in City of Rockville publications.

Gallery Hours
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Tuesday & Thursday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Opening Sundays, 1:30-3:30 p.m.; Closed official City holidays. During some regular gallery hours and many of the non-gallery hours, Glenview Mansion is used for special events, receptions, meetings, weddings, conferences, etc. The gallery is made available for Glenview Mansion guests at all of these events. Posted gallery hours guarantee front door access for the public.

Exhibit Schedule 
Rockville Art League, as the founding organization of the art gallery in 1959, presents a members’ juried art exhibit every May and December. The City of Rockville presents an annual Rockville Student Art Show in March.
