From the artist:The wall reliefs create a striking visual presence with color and texture to accentuate the niches on the building. One theme is a Maryland countryside using imagery of indigenous leaves and flowers. Another is “Town Center” including imagery of a gridded plaza floor and details of the old Red Brick Courthouse. There is some brick texture woven into the surface to tie into the surface of the building facade.
ROCKVILLE ICONS
John Himmelfarb (Chicago, Ill.)
From the artist:Each icon in the three ceramic tile murals is inspired by some “piece” of Rockville—its people, environment and history. Altogether, these pieces add up to show the rich mosaic of Rockville. This style of creating a patchwork of imagery also relates to the regional quilting tradition.

From the artist:In Rockville, there are many natural oases: Planted areas and gardens. This painted aluminum sculpture represents traditional floral forms that are enlarged in scale and distilled in forms. While slightly abstracted, the forms express the life force of living things more energetically.
