Revised Concept for Fallsgrove Park Ready for Review
Vote for the Final Amenities

Overall Site | Park Concept | Pavilion Design

The Fallsgrove Park will be the second public park within the Fallsgrove Community. Village Green Park, the first public park is located at 401 Casey Lane.

Location
The park will be located adjacent to Fallsgrove Drive at the intersection of West Montgomery Avenue.

Background
The park will be located on approximately 6.6 acres of land within the 18.5-acre parcel deeded to the City of Rockville through the Fallsgrove development process. The park will be adjacent to the recently designed Thomas Farm Community Center for which construction will begin in late October 2007. Currently within the park there is a playground, which was partially funded with contributions from the Fallsgrove Developers.

Design Process
In January 2007, the City sent a park survey to 1,467 residents in the Fallsgrove Development and 224 residents responded to the survey. On September 25, 2007 the City held an Open House at the Senior Center to review concepts prepared by Slater Associates Inc. Approximately 40 residents attended the Open House. The City surveyed those that attended the event. The major concerns associated with the park concepts included:

  • Basketball courts versus no basketball courts.
  • One tennis court versus two tennis courts.
  • Lighted tennis and basketball courts versus no lights.
  • Expansion of the playground versus no expansion.

Project Budget
$592,000 is budgeted in the City’s Capital Improvement Program for the design and construction of the park. The budget is supported by a $340,000 grant from Maryland Program Open Space (POS), a program that supports acquisition and construction of park facilities.

Vote for Amenities
As a result of the Open House a single revised design has been included for review. We asked the community to vote on 6 optional amenities within the park. The votes were tabulated through December 1, 2007. The final selection of options will be based on the vote and budget constraints.
