Before my election in 2005, I was a homeowner and active leader in numerous civic, scientific, and education associations. My relationship with the City government was from the outside looking in. As an effective and dedicated City council member, I worked within the government and made these positive changes for you -- the residents of Rockville. --- I was a catalyst for two tax reductions, and supported the $100 rebate. --- I introduced the resolution certifying that the City will not use Eminent Domain to take private property for economic development. --- I restored "Citizens Forum" to all regular Council meetings. --- I championed a feasibility study to bring a science center to the City. --- I encourage and won the creation of a Recycling and Refuse Commission. During the next 2 years, the City will face new challenges. If re-elected as your representative on council, I will --- Scrutinize the proposed changes in our zoning codes. The ordinances and City planning must protect the individual homeowner, protect neighborhoods from infringement by unreasonable growth, and enforce limits on unbridled redevelopment. --- Bring additional tax relief to residents without sacrificing vital city services. --- Encourage environmental energy saving practices and education. --- Fight for bold pedestrian safety and traffic mitigation measures. --- Focus on sustaining "living at home" for our aging population Re-elect me on November 6, and together we will keep Rockville a place that embraces all of its citizens and neighborhoods and makes growth work to our advantage.
