| | |  | | Click the image above for a larger version. | "Air Quality Action Days" are called when air quality in the Baltimore/Washington region is expected to reach unhealthy levels. Air Quality Action Days are designed to help combat the problem of ground-level ozone pollution by encouraging voluntary actions that reduce the amount of ozone-causing pollutants. This is especially important on days when weather conditions are favorable for ozone formation. These are generally hot (90+ degrees), sunny days with little or no wind and no precipitation. A color-coded system has been developed for communicating the expected level of ozone pollution and corresponding health risks and suggested actions.
