Noise

In 2005 the City finalized a Transportation Noise Study that was intended to assess existing transportation noise, recommend transportation noise mitigation techniques and recommend noise control regulatory mechanisms for the City of Rockville. The results of the Transportation Noise Study varied by area.

Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection currently implements the noise control program in the City of Rockville.

Highlights of the noise control policy:

  • Leaf blower standards = 70 dBA at 50 ft
  • Non residential areas standards = (daytime) 67 dBA, (nighttime) 62 dBA
  • Residential area standards = (daytime) 65 dBA, (nighttime) 55 dBA
Noise Report: 2005
Measurements of 66 A-weighted decibels (dBA) and above are considered to have noise impacts on surrounding residents.  Click the image above to view a larger version.
