April is Earth Month in Rockville

April 22, 2013 is Earth Day, but why limit environmental efforts to just one day? The City of Rockville is celebrating with a variety of free activities throughout March, April and May. Attend a workshop, stream cleanup, and more to learn how to stay green all year long.

Croydon Creek Nature Center – 9 a.m. to noon
Twinbrook Community Recreation Center – 10 a.m. to noon
Maryvale Park  - 10:30a.m. to noon
Participate in the 25th Annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanupat multiple sites.Children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. For more information, call 240-314-8877 or email environment@rockvillemd.gov
 
Rain ScapesRain Scapes Rewards: Green Your Backyard Workshop
April 13 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and May 5 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.
Croydon Creek Nature Center, 852 Avery Rd.
Learn about RainScapes Rewards and other City programs designed to help you green your back yard and reduce pollution in this free information session. Topics will include rain barrels, conservation landscaping, tree planting and other environmental tips for your home and community. Invasive Plant PullCroydon Creek Nature Center Invasive Plant Pull
April 14 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Croydon Creek Nature Center, 852 Avery Rd.
Work with a regional expert to harvest invasive plants. Participants should remember to bring boots, leather gloves and garden pruners.
Saving a StreamSave Our Streams Volunteer Monitoring Training
April 21 at Croydon Creek Nature Center

College Gardens Elementary School
Rockville will commemorate Arbor Day with a tree planting event. Anyone wishing to participate may attend.
Clean Car Clinic

Maryland Clean Car Clinic
April 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Thomas Farm Community Center, 700 Fallsgrove Dr. 
Get your car inspected for free by an accredited automotive technician and learn ways to keep your vehicle running cleanly and efficiently. 22 reservations will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis for the program. See flyer for more details.

Spring Plant SaleSpring Festival with Native Plants Sale
April 27 from 1 to 4 p.m.
Croydon Creek Nature Center, 852 Avery Rd.
Featuring woodland hikes, nature games and crafts, exhibits, live animal shows, native plant sale and rain barrel sale. This event is free. No registration is required. Plant pre-orders are being accepted. Call 240-314-8770 for more information on the plant sale.
