According to ENERGY STAR, the average American home spends $2,237 per year on energy, while an energy efficient home spends $1,243.

We use a lot of energy every day in our homes, businesses, industry and transportation. Unfortunately, a large portion of the energy we use is wasted. The daily choices we make on how we use energy can add up to significant energy and costs savings. The EmPOWER Maryland Energy Efficiency Act of 2008 sets targets to reduce per capita energy consumption and per capita peak demand by 15 percent by the end of 2015.

Research demonstrates that energy efficiency:

  • costs less than new generation;
  • reduces customer bills in a time of rising energy prices;
  • helps prevent blackouts by easing strain on the power grid;
  • reduces emissions of all air pollutants at one low price; and
  • boosts state economic growth.
