Natural Resources Stewardship

The City of Rockville takes stewardship of its natural resources very seriously and has developed many programs to help residents live in harmony with their natural world. The City of Rockville has a number of policies, programs and activities underway to achieve that goal.

• Active invasive species program designed to stop the spread of invasive plants and animals and to educate residents on how they can help.
• Conservation landscaping and community wildlife habitat programs promoting native plant species.
• Regulation and guidance in place to best preserve sensitive environmental areas like floodplains and stream buffers.
• Street tree and urban forest program.
• Watershed assessments that provide information needed to prioritize and carry out stream restoration projects.
• Farmers’ markets and local garden plot opportunities linking residents with local food supplies.
• Accessible nature center designed to instill the value of natural resources stewardship in our children.
• Use of an integrated pest management strategy (IPM) to manage pests in an environmentally sensitive manner.
