9:00 a.m.   Rockville Concert Band & Chorus

The City of Rockville supported all-volunteer band, directed by Dr. Vince Patterson, and the Rockville Community Chorus will perform a musical tribute to America before and during the Memorial Day Ceremony.
    

9:30 a.m.    Memorial Day Ceremony

The ceremony in the plaza at Rockville Town Square includes music by the Rockville Concert Band and the Rockville Chorus, the traditional wreath laying led by American Legion Post 86, and 21-gun salute and presentation of colors by American Legion Post 86 Color Guard. 

Participants include American Legion Auxiliary Unit 86; American Legion Post 171; Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 12; Fleet Reserve Association, Triangle Branch 182; Washington-Rockville Elks, Lodge 15; Price Hall Shriners; Anwar Temple 219; Vietnam Veterans Association; and Rockville Sister City Corporation.

10:30 a.m.   65th Annual Memorial Day Parade

Following the ceremony, the 65th Memorial Day Parade kicks off the parade route from Martins Lane and North Washington Street, turning left on Beall Avenue, turning down Maryland Avenue through Rockville Town Center and then making a left onto East Jefferson Street.  The parade has something for everyone with drill teams, marching bands, community groups, military units and more!

Brian van de Graaff
Brian van de Graaff is the morning weather forecaster for Good Morning Washington, ABC7 News at Noon, and Doug Hill’s Weather Now, the region’s only local 24-hour weather channel.  He became a part of the First Alert Forecast Team in 2000. Brian was born in Arlington and grew up in Culpeper and Madison Virginia.  He is a graduate of George Mason University in Fairfax.  Brian regularly visits area schools to teach kids about weather and weather safety, and now resides in Fairfax with his wife and son, Tony.

Grand Marshal
The Grand Marshal serves as the official speaker during the Memorial Day Ceremony and will also take part in the parade, which follows the ceremony.  The City of Rockville is pleased to announce that the Parade Grand Marshal for the 65th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade is Thomas D. Murphy.  Thomas served in the U.S. Army Infantry from 1969-1970 in Vietnam.  Tom's decorations include the Purple Heart, the Air Medal, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

Special Events Volunteer Application

  • Video and audio recorders and cameras are prohibited during Sunday evening's concert.
  • Bring beach chairs or blankets to ensure comfortable seating, and please be considerate so that those around you can see the show too.
  • No chairs or blankets allowed within 100 feet of the stage.
  • Lost children should report to the First Aid/Information booth.
  • For safety reasons, bikes, skateboards and inline skates are not permitted to be ridden in the event area.
  • For your safety, no glass containers or animals should be brought to Hometown Holidays.
  • Recycle and garbage bins are located throughout the festival.  Please dispose of trash, plastic bottles and cans responsibly.
  • Most events will take place rain or shine.  In case of inclement weather, call the Special Events Line at  240-314-5022 for cancellations.
