Completed surveys were returned by a high 44 percent of recipients (the national average for municipal surveys ranges from 25 to 40 percent). In addition to English, the survey was made available in five languages (Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Russian and Vietnamese), reflecting the City’s growing diversity according to the 2000 census. Translation help in some manner was provided to 130 respondents.
Survey Background
The City of Rockville has conducted the Citizen Survey in odd numbered years since 2001. The 2007 Citizen Survey is the fourth in a series of biennial surveys. This comprehensive feedback tool provides residents with the opportunity to rate the quality of life in the City, the community's amenities, and City programs and services. The survey results yield important data that help the City measure its performance over time. The Citizen Survey is one of many ways that the City receives feedback.
The National Research Center, Inc. (NRC) completed the 2007 Rockville Citizen Survey data collection and analysis and submitted the Report of Results. The survey period spanned approximately five weeks from January 9 through February 16, 2007. A total of 1,262 surveys were completed which yielded a response rate of 44%. This is an excellent response rate and is six percentage points higher than the 2005 survey (38%). Citizen survey response rates across the nation typically range from 25%—40%.
