Montgomery County Bag Tax Coming Soon
|
Starting January 1, 2012, all retail establishments in Montgomery County that sell goods and provide their customers a carryout bag (either paper or plastic) are required to charge 5 cents per bag. Montgomery County's new Carryout Bag Law is designed to improve our environment by cutting down plastic bags-a significant source of litter-which pollute our streets, streams, and playgrounds, and harm property values.

Attend an Upper Watts Branch Meeting
| |
The Upper Watts Branch Citizen's Task Force will hold its first meeting Monday, Dec. 19 at the Senior Center, Board Room, at 7p.m. The Watts Branch watershed is an approximately 22-square-mile tributary to the Potomac River. The confluence of the Potomac River and Watts Branch is of particular importance because it is just upstream of a major Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) drinking water intake for suburban Maryland. The water quality of Watts Branch can have a significant impact on the level of treatment required at the drinking water plant. For more questions about the Task Force, contact Orlando Heyliger at Oheyliger@rockvillemd.gov, or 240-314-8343.
