Minutes of the Cultural Arts Commission

John Moser, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. in the Diamondback Terrapin Room at Rockville City Hall.  

Re:  Approval of the Minutes
The Minutes of the Cultural Arts Commission June 10 meeting were unanimously approved.

Re:  Chairperson’s Report
John Moser reported on the following items.
1.    Richard Lurye has resigned from the Cultural Arts Commission due to medical reasons.
2.    A worksession with the Mayor and Council and the Boards’ and Commissions’ Chairpersons is scheduled on September 21 to discuss accomplishments in Fiscal Year 2009 and goals for Fiscal Year 2010.  (Distribution of Accomplishments and Goals to Cultural Arts Commission)
3.    Two items are on the Consent Agenda for the approval of the Mayor and Council at their September 21 meeting, the items are the deaccession of “Beacon” and the    substitution of photographs for “Cornerstone” by William Cochran.

Re:  Staff Report
Betty Wisda distributed copies of the Staff Report.  She noted that Judith Inglese plans to begin installation of the ceramic tile murals at the three architectural niches on N. Washington Street on October 19.  Howard Kalish plans to complete maintenance work on “Clio” at the corner of Beall Avenue and Maryland Avenue on October 20.

Re:  Task Force/Committee Updates
Art in Public Places  
George Northway reported that he plans to schedule an AIPP meeting to discuss the deaccession of “Ballgame” at Dogwood Park.

Special Events/Sampler
Carole Butler, Chairperson- No report.
Betty Wisda reported that the Rockville Arts Sampler is scheduled at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 11 at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre.  

Private Sector Art (inactive)
George Northway, Chairperson- No report.  

Outreach
Rose Garvin Aquilino, Chairperson- No report.
Betty Wisda reported that she submitted the “Hidden Rockville” Call for Entries to the Graphics Department.
