Minutes of the Cultural Arts Commission

John Moser, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. in the Black-Eyed Susan Room at Rockville City Hall.  

Re:  Approval of the Minutes
The Minutes of the Cultural Arts Commission December 16 meeting were unanimously approved.

Re:  Chairperson’s Report
John Moser reported on the following items.

1.    He will be presenting the art proposals and the recommendations of the Artist Nomination Committee and the Cultural Arts Commission to the Mayor and Council for their approval regarding the Arts and Innovation Center, the Rockville City Hall and the William Gibbs projects at the January 11, 2010 meeting.

2.    He invited Jan Stewart to share his arts background with the commissioners as well as his desire to serve on the Cultural Arts Commission.
 
Re:  Staff Report
Betty Wisda distributed copies of the Staff Report.  She reported on the following items.

1.    A letter was sent to William Cochran regarding the planned timeline for the completion of the wall preparations by January 31 and the installation of the lighting system by February 28 dependent on weather conditions.  The installation of the mural is now planned for completion by March 31 dependent on weather conditions.

2.    The winter concert by the Rockville Concert Band with Michael Arrington, guest conductor, has been rescheduled at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 10 at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre.

3.    She will prepare the Call for Entries for East Rockville, Courthouse Square Park Plaza, Orchard Ridge Park and Rockville Swim and Fitness Center by late February.

Re:  Task Force/Committee Updates

Art in Public Places  
George Northway, Chairperson, reported that a meeting to begin work on updating the Art In Public Places Master Plan 2005-2010 would be scheduled the week of February 1.  

Special Events/Sampler
Carole Butler, Chairperson, reported that she would schedule a meeting with her committee in early February.

Private Sector Art (inactive)
George Northway, Chairperson- No report.  

Outreach
Rose Garvin Aquilino, Chairperson, reported that a meeting of the Outreach committee be scheduled to review the applications in February.

Rockville Town Center  
John Moser, Chairperson- No report

Arts Facilities
Jerry Callistein, Chairperson-No report.

Re:  New Business
The Cultural Arts Commissioners asked John Moser to send a letter to the mayor and Council regarding the status report on VisArt at Rockville.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10 in the Black-Eyed Susan Room at Rockville City Hall.
