Watersheds Committee
Clean drinking water, healthy aquatic life and decreasing harmful contaminant input are important components and services of healthy aquatic systems. Watersheds are affected by modification and development on the land. In order to assure that management and development activities are balanced with the needs of healthy watersheds, the Environment Commission formed a working group to develop guidelines and recommendations to the Mayor and Council on policy that assure watersheds are properly managed in balance with other competing land management and zoning issues. Topics to be covered will include stormwater management, stream restoration procedures, streamside management/buffers, impervious surface issues, setback recommendations, water quality monitoring and water quality impacts.
About the Watersheds Committee
The Watersheds Committee is a sub-group of the full Environment Commission. Unlike the Commission, which consists of nine Rockville residents appointed by the Mayor & Council for three-year terms, the Watersheds Committee is a volunteer group and is open to anyone who lives or works within Rockville and is in interested in helping to protect the local watersheds and water resources. The group is lead by Commissioner Steve Cardon. Watersheds Committee Meetings
Meetings are usually held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month starting at 7:15 pm. Meetings are typically held at one of several conference rooms at City Hall (111 Maryland Ave.). Check individual meeting agenda for the exact location; meeting locations are also posted upon entry to City Hall.
