TREASURER'S REPORT: Report for the month of January was presented by the RSI Treasurer, Rusty Embrey. George Galasso made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report and Mary Barber seconded the motion. Motion carried.
STANDING COMMITTEES: A. Budget: We are in good standing with charitable taxes in the State of Maryland. Rusty Embrey sent in payment for personal property tax and we are good until June. Rusty will transfer $150 and $200 to the endowment fund. The money for the parking lot will not be needed for another 3 to 4 months as the design is still being worked out. RSI is sponsoring the softball team and the pizza party will be tomorrow in the Board Room. B. Ways & Means: The final amount for the Holiday Bazaar was $5,081.00. Betty Briscoe had a meeting with the Thrift Shop and Kitchen volunteers for the Spring Bazaar. They are working out the layout for the Thrift Shop so that there is not so much congestion at the sales desk. Betty distributed a list of food purchases to be made for the Carnation Cafe. Betty Ball and Lois Brown volunteered to take charge of the kitchen. Betty Briscoe and Marge Carter will write up a job description for the kitchen volunteers. Betty Briscoe will not be here for the Spring Bazaar but Mary Barber will take her place and Betty Hughes will run the Craft Show. C. Bingo: Bingo continues to do well. The jackpot has not gone yet and we have made $1,000.00 each week in January. D. Correspondence/Memorial: A thank you note was sent to Janet Colwell for working on the memorial book. A condolence card was also sent to the family of Marge Begosh but Betty did not have an address for Gloria Bruns family. Mary Barber will get an address for her. Acknowledgements have been sent to everyone who made a donation in memory of Connie Farrell and Paula Carver. Ivens Buchanan made a donation to the center and an acknowledgment was sent to him. E. Gift Shop: In the month of January the Gift Shop made $1,076.98. The consignors were paid $411.56. RSI netted $617.00. F. Thrift Shop: The Thrift Shop netted $754.88 for the month of January. G. Publicity: George Galasso will have a crafters wanted ad in the Gazette in March. H. Senior Citizens Commission: Kathy Neale is working with the commission on the Senior Needs Assessment. The survey will be in April. I. Hispanic Services Report: The Hispanic group will make tamales, tacos and empanadas for the May Yard Sale. J. Asian Services Report: Chinese New Year celebration was cancelled last week due to inclement weather but will be held this Friday.
OLD BUSINESS: A letter was sent to Roz Dixon, the director of the Duplicate Bridge program. Ron has tried to contact John Austin by phone and email but has not been successful. He will try and contact someone else at the investment firm. The room naming rights information is in Burt Hall’s hands. Ron Barber read a thank note from Heather Whitty for the gift RSI gave her for working on the cookbook. The NuStep TRS 4000 Recumbent is in place in the Fitness Room. The cookbook is done, printed and in house but we will not be distributing it until April 1. We have received 75 preorders.
NEW BUSINESS: The board voted to give out hand powered flashlights at the Volunteer Appreciation Party in May.
STAFF REPORT: Senate Bill 609 and House Bill 582 are bills being sponsored by our delegates for a bond bill of $900,000.00. Please encourage your delegates to support this bill. The addition to the parking lot is still in the design process. The City has asked for a contribution of $20,000.00 for design and planning in FY 08 and $100,000.00 for construction in FY 09 for the Fitness Expansion. If we don’t get the bond bill or a grant the project will not go forward. Lois Brown made a motion for RSI to contribute $20,000.00 to the design process of the senior center expansion in FY 08 and $50,000.00 to the construction process in FY 09. Betty Ball seconded the motion. Motion carried. Please continue to promote the 25th Anniversary activities in April. The meeting was adjourned at 2:45 p.m. The next regular board meeting was changed from Tuesday, March 20 to Tuesday, March 13, at 1:00 p.m.
