F. Publicity: The ad for crafters for the Spring Bazaar will be in the Gazette on March 24th.

G. Senior Citizens Commission: The Senior Citizens Commission will sponsor a Housing Forum on the 24th in the Carnation Room.  One commissioner will be seated at each table to gather information from participants regarding senior housing in Rockville.  New housing in the city is not senior friendly.  The commission will present a report to the Mayor and Council after the meeting.

The United Seniors of Maryland meet two times a month.  Only three people from the senior center attended the rally.  The discussions were about health, prescription drugs and slots.  The commission voted to not approve slots.  They are backing a bill to authorize the Secretary of Health to contract with pharmacy providers in Canada.

H. Hispanic Services Report: No report.

I. Asian Services Report: English class registration was on Monday.  Chu S. received many complaints about being charged $10.00 for materials.  People suggested the center should purchase textbooks for the class instead of spending time photocopying pages which are often left at home.  Jill will pass this suggestion along to Lorraine.

OLD BUSINESS:

Jill H. passed out copies of photos of the house on Wade Ave.  The house is good condition and will not need much work to sell.  The house across the street sold for $180,000.00 but the condition was not as good.  The executor hopes to be finished emptying the house of personal items by the end of April.  We will sell the furniture at the Spring Bazaar.  One realtor we have contacted recommended we put it up for sale for $250,000.00.  Andrew Begosh has agreed to do the taxes for Norman White’s estate.

We need all board members to look at the selections for the Volunteer Gift and pick out their three favorites.  Everyone who volunteers at the senior center will be invited to the Volunteer Party.  Also on the same day is the RSI board member election.  Four board members are appointed and seven are elected.  If you are running again please stop by the office and pick up an application.  We also would like to recognize a business who has helped the senior center with a corporate appreciation award and need ideas.

NEW BUSINESS:

The Piecemakers are donating a quilt for the bazaar in December and would like to be reimbursed for purchases already made and have money available for future purchases. Betty H. made a motion to allow the Piecemakers up to $150.00 for quilting supplies.  Marge C. seconded the motion.  Motion carried.  The Piecemakers are to use RSI petty cash through the front office.

Ron B. sent a letter thanking Jay at Congressional Aquarium for his $85.00 donation of fish for the aquarium in the Dining Room.

STAFF REPORT:

Secretary’s Day is on April 21 and all of the secretaries, clerks and receptionists are invited to lunch from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The Dining Room and Kitchen renovation is running behind due to the architects.  We hope to start on the kitchen in mid April.  So far we have received $8,000.00 in donations for the furniture in the Dining Room.  We will have square tables instead of round.

Jill will be away from April 7th through April 18th and be back in the office on the 19th.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:10 p.m.  The next meeting is on April 20, 2004 at 1:00 p.m.
