STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: Jill Hall and Lorraine Schack A motion to approve the March minutes with revisions was made by George Galasso and seconded by Mary Barber. Motion carried. TREASURER'S REPORT: Report for the month of March was presented by the RSI Treasurer, Rusty Embrey. Mary Barber made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report and Lois Brown seconded the motion. Motion carried.
STANDING COMMITTEES: A. Budget: The cookbook cost $4,824 to produce. We have made $1,824.00 so far. Three CDs have put into money market funds and we are earning 3 ¼% in interest. The Volunteer Gifts have been paid for, Mary Fleisher has been given money for the Health Fair and we have been paying bills for the 25th Anniversary celebration. The commission on the brokerage account has been paid from a checking account instead of out of the brokerage account. It is easier for the investment firm to audit the account if it comes out of the brokerage account then through direct billing. The fees would then show up in the Pershing fund. Ron Barber signed off on a letter giving the investment firm permission to take the commission out of the brokerage account. The Board needs to establish a committee to meet with the financial consultant – there is no reason for the entire board to meet with him. Rusty Embrey will chair the committee and find others to serve as well. The Family Fun Day program on Saturday was excellent. Lorraine Schack did an excellent job organizing the event. We gave out $90 in coupons for volunteer lunches. We sold cookbooks and raffle tickets. Jill thanked RSI for doing an excellent job in supporting Family Day. It was well advertised in the newsletter, flyers, signs on the street and on the Rockville channel, however, attendance was lower than expected. B. Ways & Means: We have 24 crafters for the Bazaar. Volunteers for the Spring Bazaar will pick up their meal tickets and their name badges from the Information Desk. The volunteers will sign at the bottom of their ticket when they receive their food. Betty Briscoe leaves the day before the Bazaar. Betty Briscoe recommended that Betty Hughes draft a letter explaining what the crafters get for the fee they pay. Betty Briscoe has a spreadsheet showing volunteers’ names, phone numbers, job description and if they are bilingual. Betty Briscoe called all the volunteers for the Bazaar except those working in the Thrift Shop, Gift Shop, Plant Sales, Computer Sales and Bake Sale. Volunteers will sell tickets and cookbooks on Wednesday at the 25th Anniversary Party. C. Bingo: Bingo is doing very well. The profits since July 2006 are $15,872.00. We lost the lucky number twice this month and the jackpot went in February. D. Correspondence/Memorial: A condolence letter was sent to the families of Richard Miller and Tina Atola. We don’t have an address for Luise Huegel so the condolence letter will go to the Lutheran Home. E. Gift Shop: In the month of March the Gift Shop made $1,275.69. The consignors were paid $407.89. RSI netted $809.53. F. Thrift Shop: The Thrift Shop netted $670.57 for the month of March. G. Publicity: The ad for the Spring Bazaar will be the same as last year with a few additions and it also will be in color. It will run the Wednesday before the Bazaar. The ad costs $219.15. H. Senior Citizens Commission: No report. I. Hispanic Services Report: No report. J. Asian Services Report: The Senior Singers will be singing God Bless America tomorrow for the 25th Anniversary.
OLD BUSINESS: A nominating committee for the RSI Board elections has been established: Rusty Embrey (Chair), Marge Carter and Betty Hughes. There are three vacancies on the RSI Board which need to be filled. Duplicate Bridge has asked for more space. As a compromise to all involved, bridge will move to the Carnation Room on Mondays but with an earlier start time. They will use three rooms in the back of the building on Fridays and will limit their numbers to 27 tables. They have been asked to stay off of the pool tables and have been told any further damage to the ping pong or pool tables will be their responsibility.
NEW BUSINESS: Wednesday, May 30 is the Health Fair. Lorraine Schack asked if RSI would like to have a table at the Salute to Nonprofits Fair on August 24 – 11:30am to 1:30pm. They can sell cookbooks and talk about the Senior Center. We could also sell cookbooks at the Farmers Market at the Recreation Departments table. The Board agreed they would like to be a part of the Fair. The committee to decide on the Volunteer of the Year Award will meet after this meeting. Mary Barber handed out raffle tickets to all of the Board to sell. Lorraine Schack asked the Board if they would purchase an external hard drive and two memory cards for the Computer Lab. Mary Barber made a motion to give up to $200.00 to the computer lab. Betty Hughes seconded the motion. Motion carried.
STAFF REPORT: Tomorrow will be the 25th Anniversary Party with many dignitaries and guests. There will be a large part of the program for RSI members, so it is important that Board Members attend. VIP parking has been arranged for RSI, Senior Commission, elected officials and 25 year members. Jill Hall read a program of events for the 25th Anniversary Day. Please thank Keith Dennis and Nick Aquino when you see them for all their extra work to clean the building and make it look beautiful. The facilities staff replaced the cove base in the Carnation Room which is a wonderful improvement. We have new signs outside and the outside area has been cleaned up by the parks crew. The Volunteer Appreciation Party and Elections is on May 15. The gifts are here and have been wrapped. The Corporate Appreciation Award will go to Safeway for their twice weekly donation of bakery goods and flowers. Jerry Lang has agreed to help present the award. We won’t be giving out an Lifetime Awards since we will be giving out so many at the 25th Anniversary. Ruth Hanessian has been asked to present the Estelle Berberian Volunteer of the Year Award with George. The meeting was adjourned at 2:20 p.m. REMINDER: The Volunteer Appreciation Party and Board Elections will be Tuesday, May 15, at 1:00 p.m.
