OLD BUSINESS:

The plaque for the Bocce Ball court is here.

A task force for the Senior Citizens Services Report will be assembled.

There will be a Health Fair at the Senior Center on May 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It is a rental – it is not sponsored by the Center. RSI has agreed to sell food as a fundraiser.  Mary B. could use more volunteers that day.

NEW BUSINESS:  The American Contract Bridge Association has been selected to receive the Corporate Appreciation Award.

STAFF REPORT:

Josh Renovitz submitted his resume and has applied to be the RSI Treasurer.  He has an extensive financial background.  Ron will interview him. Jill has also advertised for a Treasurer on The Rockville Channel and sent letters to all volunteer tax aides. The Mayor and Council appoint the treasurer, so we need to forward our recommendation as soon as possible so the appointment can be made before the May 17, 2005 meeting.

The traffic count on Crocus Drive did not show enough use or excessive speed to warrant changes.

The invitations for the Volunteer Appreciation Party on May 17 were mailed out today.  If a volunteer filled out the volunteer sheet and put in hours they will receive an invitation.  The gift is the jotter and they have arrived.

We did not receive any nominations for lifetime members.

Ruth Berberian will present the volunteer of the year award.

Betty H. will prepare a report of major purchases RSI made in the past year to discuss at the Volunteer Appreciation Party.  We will need the current board to come to the Party and the Elections and help give out gifts. We will ask the Mayor to appoint Louise and Mary B. as well as well as a treasurer to the board.  Chu and Mary R. will not be running again.  Betty H., George G., Betty B., Ron B., Sofie S. and Marjorie C. plan to run again.

The raffle tickets have been printed – please take some to sell.  We also need volunteers to sell raffle tickets at the Health Fair on May 7th, at Supper Club, Bingo and at local shopping centers.

We have heard presentations from Bank of America, Suburban Federal and Chevy Chase regarding investment possibilities.  Jill contacted David Rowland – the City of Rockville’s Comptroller.  He prepared a report for RSI regarding investment advice. Jill suggested that we have someone come and prepare an Investment Statement so that we can determine our policies for investing before we do anything with the money.

Jill passed out the new Senior Center brochures.  We will mail them out to voters over 60 who are not currently members with a $5.00 coupon.  We have a new commercial on cable.

Marie MacKay will be retiring after 20 years at the Senior Center at age 95.  There will be a tea for her on Thursday, April 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Wednesday, April 27th is the Secretary’s Day lunch.

Lorraine Schack had a member’s son and daughter-in-law ask if anyone would like to ride in the 1968 fire truck at the Memorial Day parade.

Jill will ask the Mayor to proclaim May 8 to May 15 as Senior Center Week to recognize Older Americans Month.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:20 p.m.  The next meeting is scheduled for May 17, 2005.
