Board of Directors Meeting Minutes

The meeting of the Rockville Seniors Inc. was held on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at the Rockville Senior Center.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Ron Barber at 2:00 p.m. followed by a moment of silent prayer.

The Rockville Seniors Inc. board of elections was held today and the following candidates won: Betty Ball, Mary Barber, Betty Briscoe and Lois Brown.  Ron Barber was elected as President, George Galasso as Vice President, Terry Maxwell as Recording Secretary and Betty Ball as Corresponding Secretary. 

The minutes from April 18, 2006 were presented. George made a motion to accept the minutes after a revision to the bottom of page 3 was added.  Mary seconded the motion.  Motion carried. 

TREASURER'S REPORT:

A report for the month of April was presented.  Copies will be forwarded to the city's Mayor and Council and to all board members.  All members present voted to accept the treasurer’s report

 STANDING COMMITTEES:

A. Budget: Steve Chappel is no longer our financial advisor – he is no longer with the bank.  Cindy Caswell will run the program on Thursday.  Steve’s replacement is John Austin.  Ron will invite him to the next meeting.   

B. Ways & Means:  The Spring Bazaar is coming along.   We had to print more raffle tickets.  Signs are out in the neighborhoods and surrounding areas.

C. Bingo:  Bingo had a lot of expenses for supplies in April.  Ron will train the new callers for bingo. 

D. Correspondence/Memorial:  $485.00 was received for memorials.  Louise wanted to thank everyone for making her job easier.  Some months there was no correspondence and the next month she would send out 60 cards.  She enjoyed it and will come back to visit.  Louise wanted to remind everyone that RSI is here to improve this building and the contents of the building.  Her first year here RSI spent $160,000.00 on improvements on this building.  She said it is RSI’s job to see this place has all that it needs and if they ask for it they need it

E. Gift Shop:  In March we made $1,054.50 and paid out $378.75 to consignors and netted $675.75

F. Thrift Shop:  The Thrift Shop made $787.20 in April (18 days open)

G. Publicity:  An ad for spring bazaar will be in the Gazette on May 17th.

H. Senior Citizens Commission:  No report. Jonathon Triandifilou is the new RSI liaison.

I. Hispanic Services Report:  The Hispanic group participated in the Mother’s Day Tea.  They made decorations for the tables, crocheted hats for toilet paper for raffle prizes and made bookmarks as raffle prizes.  They also entertained the group with songs and dancing.

J. Asian Services Report:  No report.

 OLD BUSINESS:

The taxes were mailed and Rusty will take care of sending in the MD charitable tax form.

 NEW BUSINESS: 

None reported.  

 STAFF REPORT: 

The Senior Services Long Range Task Force is suggesting a change to the membership categories at the senior center.  The categories would be member, nonmember resident and nonmember non-resident.  There will be staggered registration dates. The age will remain at 60+ at present time.  The Board agreed with the Task Force’s recommendations regarding membership.

The Health Fair will be on May 31 from 11am to 2pm with a Health walk at 10am. 

We had 100+ for the Mother’s Day Tea.  We had a lot of fun.  We will have a Father’s Day Game Day on June 14 – 10:15am to 11:30am. 

We have received over 500 Participant Satisfaction surveys and results will be available at the next meeting. 

The meeting was adjourned at 3:12 p.m.  The next meeting is scheduled for June 20, 2006 at 1:00 p.m.
