TREASURER'S REPORT: Reports for the months of August and September were presented. Betty Ball made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report and Mary Barber seconded the motion. Motion carried.
STANDING COMMITTEES: A. Budget: Financially we are in good shape. Mary Barber made a motion to raffle off four $25 Giant Food gift certificates at bingo on November 15, Betty Ball seconded the motion. Motion carried. B. Ways & Means: Betty Briscoe will not be here to run the Holiday Bazaar. Mary Barber will take on the responsibility to find volunteers. Betty Hughes went to about 10 businesses that we sent letters to asking for donations to the raffle. She felt that by going in person we might get more donations. The Piecemakers will be donating a lap quilt to the raffle. C. Bingo: Bingo is doing very well. The board decided that Bingo will be cancelled on November 22 and December 27. D. Correspondence/Memorial: Condolence letters were sent to Marion Green’s and Rafaela Martinez’s family. RSI received $25 as a donation in memory of Marion Green. E. Gift Shop: In the month of September the Gift Shop made $1,370.54. The consignors were paid $500.44. RSI netted $870.10. F. Thrift Shop: The Thrift Shop netted $613.98. Nick Aquino built and installed new shelves and they look great. Thank you to Nick. G. Publicity: George advertised for crafters wanted for the Holiday Bazaar in the Gazette. H. It was also featured on the front page of the Gazette. J. Asian Services Report: No report.
OLD BUSINESS: Young In Heart will not be running a bake sale on Election Day. John Austin recommended that we get rid of the Franklin Flex Cap and reinvest it. At our last meeting we did not have a quorum and George Galasso called Ron Barber at home and he agreed with the other members that were at the meeting to go with John Austin’s recommendations. George Galasso wrote a letter about the newsletter going out too early to Burt Hall. It was decided that the newsletter would be mailed out three weeks before the beginning of each month instead of four weeks. There will be some changes due to the holidays in the mailing date but beginning with January 2007 it will be forwarded to graphics by the 7th or 8th of each month.
NEW BUSINESS: Many years ago, Duplicate Bridge was given use of a room in exchange for a donation to RSI. Roz Dixon, the new director of the bridge games, asked Jill if she could hire more help at the games. We do not pay the helpers; their pay comes out of the donation to RSI. If hiring more staff results in the monthly donation dropping below $1,000 a month the Board may want to reconsider their arrangement to sponsor the Bridge since the problems (parking, lack of rooms) may outweigh the benefits. George Galasso brought a note from Ron Barber thanking the board for the fruit basket. George Galasso asked all board members to contribute ten recipes each to the cookbook that is being assembled for the 25th anniversary celebration of the senior center. Teresa Harn and Teresa Maxwell are going to get recipes from the Asian International Club and the Hispanic International Club. Heather Whitty has volunteered to type up the recipes. We are going to have a poster with a thermometer showing how many recipes we have and how many we need to reach our goal and also what categories are needed.
STAFF REPORT: The holiday cards/planners have arrived and RSI decided to have them mailed out the first week of November. Rockville Reports will have a four page spread devoted to senior services. The contract for the parking lot is still being finalized with the engineers. We are still getting estimates to replace the floor in the exercise room. The building will be closed on Thanksgiving Day but will be open for drop in use on November 7, November 10 and November 24. The meeting was adjourned at 2:05 p.m. The next regular board meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 21, at 1:00 p.m.
