STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: Jill Hall Gregory Pang – Senior Financial Advisor and Vice President at Chevy Chase Bank spoke with the board regarding investment solutions for the endowment fund. He recommended that we invest with Jefferson Pilot Finance Company which has triple A credit rating. Information regarding investment possibilities is included in the packets that were handed out to the board members. The minutes from the October 19, 2004 meeting were accepted. TREASURER'S REPORT: A report for the month of October was presented. Copies will be forwarded to the city's Mayor and Council. STANDING COMMITTEES: A. Budget: No report. B. Ways & Means: Vi Kemp and Marge Carter have volunteered to coordinate the kitchen for the Bazaar. Hispanic Social Services is making food for the Bazaar and also several members are volunteering to help in the kitchen. We have eighteen crafters so far. The outside signs go up one week before the Bazaar. Betty H. will work for Mary R. at the Bazaar. C. Bing No report. D. Correspondence/Memorial: We sent out three sympathy cards. We received $175.00 in memorial donations. E. Gift /Thrift Shop: We made $1,512.00 in sales, paid out $397.09 to consignors and deposited $1,045.71. F. Publicity: The ad for the Bazaar will run in the Gazette one week before as a paid ad and for free in the community section. G. Senior Citizens Commission: The rally in Annapolis is on January 25, 2005 – 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The theme is Senior State of Affairs. It costs $10.00 and includes a continental breakfast and a box lunch. The National Lutheran Home has applied for fifteen more units. The commission will present their report on affordable housing for seniors on February 7, 2005 at 5:30 p.m. to the Mayor and Council. H. Hispanic Services Report: No report. I. OLD BUSINESS: See’s candy did not sell well at the Train Show. The senior commission decided not to sell the candy at the Bazaar. Betty H. made a motion to rescind the motion that we fund the sales of See’s candy. Mary B. seconded the motion. Motion carried. George spoke with a colleague at CDC regarding getting flu shots for the senior center. Ciriaco Gonzales sent a letter to the Mayor regarding flu shots. Staff are recommending that everyone call their private physicians to see if they have flu shots since they seem to be getting some in. NEW BUSINESS: Mary B. asked if we could sell poinsettas at the Bazaar. Marge made a motion that we purchase and sell poinsettas. Juan G. seconded the motion. Motion carried. STAFF REPORT: Renovations are currently underway at the center. One third of the roof is being repaired. The Dining Room is almost finished being repainted. The Ceramics Room had the ceiling tiles replaced because of complaints of fumes. Handicapped symbols have been painted in the side parking lot to lessen confusion. Parking enforcement is coming by once a day and will ticket you $100.00 if you are parked in a handicapped spot. The compressor in the nutrition refrigerator broke and would cost $1,000.00 to repair. Montgomery County nutrition purchased a new refrigerator and it will be delivered soon. The FY 06 budget which begins July 1, 2005 needs to be prepared now with some cuts.
