1. Review of Division Report

The commissioners reviewed the monthly traffic and transportation division report. There was a discussion about illuminated crosswalks and possible locations. The issue was raised of looking at a possible Park & Ride program in addition to a pilot shuttle program. Chairman Klein distributed a letter to the Mayor and Council regarding the intersection of Darnestown Road, Oak Knoll Drive and Glenora Lane.

2. Review of Pedestrian Policy

Copies of comments and edits from Chairman Klein, commissioners Oberg, Gonnella and Crane were distributed and reviewed. Chairman Klein identified items from the Pedestrian Policy to be included in the City Ordinance. Chairman Klein will compile all of the edits and comments. Commissioner Gonnella will review and update the Purpose and Background and Scope sections of the policy.

3. Review of Draft Supplemental Warrants for Pedestrian Safety Devices

Draft supplemental warrants for pedestrian safety devices compiled by staff were distributed and reviewed. Additional work will be done to refine the warrants for pedestrian safety devices and develop thresholds for different devices.

4. Transit Adequacy Definition Principles

Chairman Klein distributed his Transit Adequacy Guideline for review and comment. Commissioner Crane suggested improving the RideOn bus maps to include a vicinity map. The commission will draft a letter to RideOn with suggestions for improvements to their service.

5. Speed Cameras

Ms. Marks distributed a memo with speed vehicle data to the commissioners for review.

6. Initiation of List of Pedestrian Safety Devices

Chairman Klein relayed a request from the Mayor and Council to compile a list of innovative ideas for pedestrian safety in Rockville. Such things as paddle signs, countdown signals and illuminated crosswalks were discussed. Staff and the commission will compile a list of suggestions to be explored.

7. Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
