Mayor and Council Chambers
Meeting No. 02-04
February 24, 2004
7:30 p.m.

Commissioners Present:
Richard Resnick, Chairman
Elizabeth Crane
Alice Filemyr
Stanley Klein
Alan Levine
Jon Oberg

City Staff: Katherine Kelly, Larry Marcus

1.  Review and Approve Minutes

The minutes from January 2004 were approved with the following changes:

  • Item 6, “Other”: Change from “…requested that this be sent to the Mayor and Council…” to “indicated he would send a memo to the Mayor and Council…”.
  • Spelling correction to Commissioner Crane’s name (from “Krane”).

2.  Review of Staff Report

Chair Resnick inquired about the status of the Pedestrian Policy.  Ms. Kelly said that a final version, including comments from Commissioners and staff, will be prepared within the next two weeks.  Staff will let the Commission know when the revised document is sent to the Mayor and Council for approval, along with a cover memo already prepared by Chair Resnick.

3.  Review Memorandum Re: Pedestrian Safety at Frederick Ave. and King Farm Blvd.

Commissioners suggested two primary changes to the draft memo prepared by Commissioner Oberg regarding pedestrian safety at the intersection of King Farm Blvd. @ MD355: 1) remove references to the fatality that occurred at this intersection, and 2) incorporate language to the effect that the requested short-term improvements be implemented now and not be hindered by the long-term goal of a grade separation at this intersection with the planned Corridor Cities Transitway.  Ms. Kelly will revise the memo and send to Commissioners for approval before it is submitted to the Mayor and Council.

4. Review and Prepare Comments on Proposed FY05 Capital Improvements Program

Mr. Marcus provided a spreadsheet summarizing (draft) appropriations and funding sources for Transportation CIPs.  Spreadsheets detailing individual CIP projects will be provided at next month’s meeting.

6. Other

Chair Resnick suggested that the revised CTR be reviewed during next month’s meeting.  This version will include comments from the public and updates made by staff since the December Mayor& Council and Planning Commission worksessions and Public Hearing.

Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
