Piotr Gajewski, 51, was first elected to the Rockville Council in November 2007, with the largest vote total of the election.  In 2009 even more residents cast their vote for Gajewski, resulting in his decisive reelection.

Councilmember Gajewski is passionate about his role as a public servant and has made constituent service a high priority.  In February 2008 Gajewski sponsored a first of its kind Townhall Meeting, providing a unique citizen forum for an in depth exchange on issues; he now holds such meetings quarterly.

Gajewski’s other priorities include:

  • Preserving the “hometown” character of Rockville’s many neighborhoods while advancing the City vision that puts Rockville forward as a cultural destination.
  • Introducing efficiencies to provide Rockville residents with tax relief without sacrificing quality services
  • Championing greatest possible transparency of Rockville government.
  • Better coordinating Rockville’s agenda with the County and State.

In his professional life, Piotr Gajewski is Music Director & Conductor of the National Philharmonic, in residence at the Music Center at Strathmore.  Praised by the Washington Post as an "immensely talented and insightful conductor," whose "standards, taste and sensitivity are impeccable," Maestro Gajewski is also much in demand nationally and internationally as a guest conductor. In recent years, he has appeared with most of the major orchestras in his native Poland, as well as the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in England, the Karlovy Vary Symphony in the Czech Republic, the Okanagan Symphony in Canada and numerous orchestras in the United States.

Gajewski is a winner of many prizes and awards, among them a prize at New York's prestigious Leopold Stokowski Conducting Competition, Montgomery County's Comcast Excellence in the Arts and Humanities Achievement Award, and a Leonard Bernstein Fellowship at the Tanglewood Festival in Massachusetts, where Gajewski studied with Bernstein as well as other prominent conductors, including Seiji Ozawa and Andre Previn.

Piotr Gajewski holds BM and MM degrees from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music and a JD degree from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.

He resides in King Farm with his wife Tisha, son Devin - a student at Richard Montgomery High School - and young daughter Charlie. His daughter Michelle is a graduate of RMHS and Carleton College.  His father Ryszard is one of Rockville’s newest residents having recently relocated from Southern California to Ingleside at King Farm.
