Highlights of the June 21 Mayor and Council Meeting
The Mayor and Council met on Monday, June 21, at City Hall. The agenda included a report from the Communications Task Force and an update on the RedGate business plan along with other City business.
The following items outline many of the decisions that were made.
RedGate Business Plan (Plan) Financial Update
After hearing the financial plan update, the Mayor and Council asked that the RedGate advisory board make a presentation at the July 19 Mayor and Council meeting. A Mayor and Council work session on RedGate will then be scheduled in September.
Details from the business plan can be seen in the staff report along with information requested by the Mayor and Council.
Communications Task Force Report
In response to community concerns, the Mayor and Council established a Communications Task Force on December 7, 2009, to be chaired by Councilmember Newton. The Task Force was charged with reviewing and evaluating the ways Rockville notifies and involves the community in news and actions generated by and disseminated through City government.
The Task Force presented the results of their work to the full Mayor and Council.
Findings included making upgrades to the City’s web site and improving citizen engagement in the development process.
Parking fines raised in Town Square Garages
As part of the Fiscal Year 2011 budget, the Mayor and Council raised fees for parking violations to $40, which is consistent with the City’s metered parking.
The Mayor and Council voted in favor of amending the code to allow this change.
Discussion & Instructions to Staff regarding Zoning Text Amendment TXT2010-00226
The text amendment proposes to modify (1) the definition of Open Area; (2) the definition of Public Use Space; (3) the amount of public use space required per Section 25.13.05, Development Standards; and (4) the general requirements contained in Section 25.17.01, Public Use Space
The Mayor and Council instructed staff to schedule a joint work session for the Mayor and Council and the Planning Commission to discuss this text amendment before the amendment is introduced or adopted. The work session has been scheduled for the July 19 Mayor and Council meeting.
The Mayor and Council unanimously adopt Vision 2020 document
The new vision document replaces the Mayor and Council vision adopted in 2008. The document is an overarching strategic policy statement expressing the Mayor and Council's consensus on their vision of Rockville in 10 years.
