Calling All Future Mayors |
Calling all 4th graders! The City of Rockville wants to know what you would do if you were Mayor. Your winning essay could be chosen in the Maryland Municipal League (MML) and the Maryland Mayors' Association (MMA) "If I Were Mayor" contest. Write an essay and fill out the entry form and send it in to the MML (1212 West Street Annapolis, MD 21401). The MML will then send the entries from Rockville schools to City Hall to be reviewed. All entries must be received no later than March 30, 2013. The theme of this year's essay is "Vision for the Future" that asks sudents to look around their community and think about how they would like it to be, a few years from now. If you were Mayor:
A study guide and entry form can be downloaded from the MML's website. The winner earns a tour of city government facilities, a ride-along with a Rockville City Police Officer, and a lunch with Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio. The winner also receives a plaque of recognition at a televised Mayor and Council General Session meeting. One winning essay will be selected from each of the MML’s 11 regional districts throughout the state. The 11 winners will be recognized at a ceremony in May in Annapolis. In addition to the winners chosen by MML and the MMA, the Mayor and Council will select their own fourth-grade winner attending a school in Rockville. The winner will be the Mayor of Rockville for a day.
