The Commission shall meet at City Hall. The Commission may meet more frequently as needed by the Mayor and Council for special assignments or projects. Depending on the topic under review, there may be additional time commitment necessary.

The City of Rockville has established an Ethics Commission as part of the revision to its Ethics Ordinance as required by State law.

About the Commission

The City of Rockville’s Ethics Commission is made up of private citizens who meet to, among other things, consider policy, advise the Mayor and Council and process complaints made alleging violations of the Ethics Code.

The purpose of the Ethics Commission is to:
  • Ensure the public has the highest trust in City officials and employees
  • Assure the public that decisions are made impartially and with independence of judgment
  • Ensure City business is conducted free from improper influence.
The commission consists of five members appointed by the Mayor with the confirmation of the Council.

Commission Appointment Terms
Commission members serve for a term of three years, except the initial appointment of one member shall be for one year, two members for two years; and two members for three years. Any vacancy must be filled only for the remainder of the unexpired term. A commission member may continue to serve until the Council confirms a successor.

Each member of the commission must meet the following qualifications:

(1) The member must reside within Rockville City limits

(2) During the member’s term of office the member must:

a) Not hold or be a candidate for any state, county, or local elected or appointed office;

b) Not be an employee of the state, a political subdivision of the state or a public body created by the state or a political subdivision of the state.

Important Note!
As set forth in Chapter 16 of the City Code (see link below), all applicants are required to complete the Statement of Financial Interests and submit the Statement along with the Expression of Interest Form.
