National Night Out

Celebrate National Night Out in Rockville’s Neighborhoods

Meet Others in the Community and Learn About Crime Prevention

Rockville families are invited to an evening of community togetherness on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 for the Rockville City Police Department's (RCPD) National Night Out.

As a symbol of promoting anti-crime and anti-drug awareness, residents are invited to turn on outdoor lights as part of the traditional display of front porch vigils, sending the message to criminals that neighborhoods are fighting back against crime.

In addition, participating neighborhoods will host their own block party with activities such as cookouts, moon bounces, giveaways, carnival games, prizes and a chance to spend some time with neighbors.

The community event aims to raise awareness about crime and drug prevention, generate support for anti-crime programs and strengthen community spirit and community policing partnerships.

McGruff the Crime Dog will stop by several of the scheduled block parties to spread his anti-crime and anti-drug message. The Rockville Mayor and Council, RCPD officers and members of the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office will visit many of the block parties.

National Night Out is a long-standing crime and drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
