Recycling and Refuse Collection Schedule
Find your collection day

The City of Rockville collects recycling, refuse and yard waste on a four-days-per-week schedule. Except on certain holiday weeks, we will no longer collect on Fridays.

You can find your collection day on the map below by entering your address in the search box, then clicking on the map at the address location. (View a full-size version of this map.) Select your day below to find the collection dates.

Why are collections changing?
The new collection schedule allows the City to combine some routes and reduce the number of collection staff and vehicles. The reduced operational costs will allow Rockville to keep the monthly service fee as low as possible. All customers will receive the same high level of service.

Additionally, residents who had Friday collections will no longer have to delay going out-of-town for the weekend or prevail upon neighbors to remove their carts from the curbside on Fridays. The new schedule will also eliminate the need for customers to put carts curbside on Saturdays during holiday weeks.

Who will be affected by this change?
The change in collection days applies only to households whose recycling and refuse is collected by the City of Rockville (single-family homes and most townhomes). Residents served by a private contractor will not be affected by this change.

What will I have to do?
Please place your brown and gray carts in the curb or alleyway (depending on your collection location) by 6 a.m. on your collection day. Place carts with wheels to the curb and the lid opening to the street. Do not block mailboxes or driveways.

What happens during holiday weeks?
Collections will not be made when the following holidays fall on a weekday:
  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King’s Birthday
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving
  • Christmas
If one of the above listed holidays falls on a weekday and your regularly scheduled collection is on or after the holiday, your collection will be delayed one day.

Regular collections will be made on all other federal, state and local holidays. For a detailed list, visit the new holiday collection calendars.

What considerations were made for this change?
The Mayor and Council received a presentation on Monday, June 23 about the move to a four-day collection schedule that will eliminate Friday collections and change the collection day for other customers.
