A Peek at Our Chesapeake by Asian American LEAD
 Asian American LEAD Mural
Location: Corner of Ridgway Avenue and Wainwright Avenue, next to Twinbrook Elementary School

"The students want to show the importance of these creatures and how we all must work together towards water conservation and decreasing pollution in our area." - Asian American LEAD

Mural Inspiration

Our mural, “A Peek at Our Chesapeake” is inspired by the different creatures found in and around the Chesapeake Bay. In our after school programs, we learned how humans play a large role in affecting Maryland’s watershed which leads to impacting the Bay. Our youths highlighted some of our favorite creatures found in the Chesapeake including jellyfish, shrimp, oysters, fish and Maryland’s state crustacean, the blue crab. We discussed ways to help protect the environment and the above mentioned creatures. By learning about the role of storm drains, the youths began to understand the process of how water from storm drains travel from our area into the Bay.The students want to show the importance of these creatures and how we all must work towards water conservation and decreasing pollution in our area.

About Asian American LEAD

Asian American LEAD is a non-profit organization that focuses on after-school programming for low-income, under served Asian youths in the community. The mural design came entirely from the collaboration of our students at Julius West Middle School in Rockville. Our goal is to create a community within our organization focused on the youth needs and interests. Art and expression play large roles in the youths lives at our after-school program at Julius West.
