Air Quality
Improving Air Quality
Air pollution impacts public health and the environment. The Washington Metropolitan region, which includes Rockville, has taken steps to improve air quality and reduce the number of Code Red days; however, pollutant levels of ground-level ozone and fine particulate matter are still above the national health standards. As a result, our region is classified as a nonattainment area for these two pollutants and there are regional air quality management programs in place to achieve compliance.

Health Effects of Air Pollution
Heath effects of common air pollutants include impacts to your respiratory and cardiovascular systems. The Air Quality Index (AQI) reports how clean or polluted the air is and what associated health effects might be of concern for you.
