News About Plastic Bags in Recycling and Refuse Collections
NO MORE PLASTIC BAGS
Effective immediately, the city is no longer accepting materials for recycling that are in plastic bags or that contain plastic bags.

This includes plastic bags grouped into one bag and placed in the cart, as well as bags used to bundle other materials for recycling.

Look for grocery and retail stores with plastic bag collection bins near their entrances. Find a drop-off locator identifying stores that accept the bags for recycling at:
http://m.montgomerycountymd.gov/sws/how/plastic-bags.html.

Materials for recycling should not be bagged. They should be rinsed and placed in the brown recycling cart.

The change was made due to costly damage that the bags are causing to the processing and sorting equipment.
