Submittal of Receipts and Invoices
All state tax credit applications are reviewed by Maryland Historical Trust tax credit staff. Applicants are advised to contact MHT staff early in the project planning phase, to assure full consideration by the state of your application.

For all projects:
  • The credit ranges from 10 - 25 %, depending on the property.
  • The project must be approved by MHT before any work begins.
  • A filing fee equal to 3% of the approved project costs is required. A $10 initial filing is required with the submission of a Part I certification.
  • The maximum credit allowed is $3 million per commercial rehabilitation. The phased rehabilitation of the same structure or property, and the rehabilitation of multiple structures that are functionally related to serve an overall purpose are treated as single rehabilitations.
  • Homeowners claiming the tax credit need to file Form 502CR Part H - Refundable Income Tax Credits with their Part III certification tax number and attached certification letter.

The credit may be taken only for amounts estimated on the Part 2 (plan approval) application. The Part 2 application may be amended prior to submission of the Part 3 (completed work certification) application.

The program is administered by the Maryland Historical Trust, and completed applications must be submitted to MHT. More information on Marylands Sustainable Communities Tax Credit program may be obtained from the state at 410-514-7630. Forms and assistance are available at the Maryland Historical Trust web site.
