Weekly Collections
The City provides once-per-week, curbside recycling, refuse and yard waste collections for single-family homes and most townhouses.
  • Place your brown and gray carts in the curb or alleyway (depending on your collection location) by 6 a.m. on your collection day. Place carts with wheels to the curb and the lid opening to the street. Do not block mailboxes or driveways.
  • After collection, carts must be removed from the curb or alleyway within 24 hours.
  • For details on what types of materials are accepted in each collection, visit the following webpages, review our brochures and FAQs or watch videos on our services.

Yard Waste
Grass clippings and yard waste are collected at the curb in biodegradable paper bags or easily emptied 32-gallon, rigid containers on your collection day.

If your collection has been missed notify the Recycling and Refuse Office by calling 240-314-8568. If it is after-hours please leave a message with the type of collection missed and your address. We will attempt to rectify this as soon as possible.

              Recycling Quick Tips
Working toward our goal recycling rate of 60%, our residents can recycle all types of materials; including some lesser known items:
  • Junk mail with plastic windows, catalogs and cardboard;
  • Wax milk and juice containers;
  • Empty aluminum or aerosol cans;
  • Rigid plastics such as children’s toys, food containers, milk crates, patio furniture and flower pots

No plastic bags The City of Rockville will no longer accept plastic bags in City recycling carts. This includes plastic bags grouped into one bag as well as plastic bags used to bundle other materials for recycling. Look for grocery and retail stores with plastic bag collection bins near their entrances.
