Neighborhood Toolkits are Coming!
In an effort to better equip neighborhood associations and their leaders, the Neighborhood Resources Program is developing toolkits full of useful information. The toolkits include basic information about City departments and services. Recognizing how confusing terminology and acronyms can be, the kit also includes a handy acronym definition list. They also include non-City resources that associations may find helpful. It’s all packaged in plastic hanging file boxes that are easy to store. One toolkit is being produced for each neighborhood and will be distributed soon. Call 240-314-8340 for more information.

Free Mediation Program Offered
The City’s Human Rights Commission sponsors the Rockville Mediation Program to give residents a way to address and find resolutions to conflicts without paying expensive court and lawyer fees. The program brings people together to discuss their issues and seek an agreement that everyone accepts. The mediation program provides assistance in disagreements involving current or former neighbors, employers/employees, friends, landlords/tenants, residents, homeowners associations, consumers/businesses and more. Dog Licensing
Be advised that it is mandatory for all dogs that reside in the Rockville City limits to be licensed through the Rockville City Police Department. You can download a pet registration form or request the form by mail by calling 240-314-8937.

The Rockville Chorus is Looking For a Few Good Voices!
The Chorus is comprised of approximately 70 volunteer members who have been selected via an audition process and enjoy performing a varied repertorie. Homeowner-landlords Must Obtain Rental Licenses
Rockville law requires all homeowners to obtain rental licenses if they rent their property. Also, accessory or “granny” apartments, are only allowed after the the City of Rockville Board of Appeals grants a special exception. Please be aware that individuals should not sleep in rooms that do not have proper windows, are next to furnaces and water heaters, and that do not have a direct access to the outside. Residents who would like to obtain rental licenses may pick up applications online or visit in person at 20 Courthouse Square, Suite 205. Rockville Seniors, Inc. 25th Anniversary Cookbook Available
Guaranteed to please cooks of any age, this wonderful 400 recipe cookbook includes the treasured dishes of Senior Center members and staff. Cookbooks are available at the Senior Center, located at 1150 Carnation Drive, or they can be ordered by mail.  Cookbooks are $10.00 each or $9.00 each for two or more books. Proceeds from this fundraising cookbook will be used to support the programs at the Rockville Senior Center. For more information, call 240-314-8810.

Party in the City
Planning a birthday party in the near future? The City of Rockville has many exciting venues and themes for hosting birthday parties: Skate Park party, Nature party at Croydon Creek, Recreation Center parties at Lincoln Park or Twinbrook, Rock Climbing party, swimming party and more. Assistance for Crime Victims, Witnesses
Anyone who has experienced a crime and had to navigate the judicial system knows it can be an emotional and confusing experience. The City provides assistance to ensure fair, compassionate and sensitive treatment of victims and witnesses of crimes. One tool that is available is a newly updated brochure from the Maryland State Board of Victim Services. It provides vital information about the judicial process, domestic violence, sexual assault and the juvenile justice system. In addition, it includes a listing of state and national crime victim resources. Water Quality Pollution Hotline: 240-314-8348
Everyone can assist with keeping the City’s waterways clean by being vigilant when near creeks, streams or storm drains. Anyone observing or smelling something improper in or near the water, or seeing someone dumping something into the water, should call the City’s automated pollution hotline at 240-314-8348. The caller should leave a message with as much information as possible, including a description of the substance (if known) and the exact location, so the City can respond swiftly if it is an emergency and/or investigate the concern.

Hazardous Waste
Call the City’s Dept. of Public Works between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, to schedule free collection of the following waste: oil, car batteries, tires, oil-based paint, flammable liquids, pesticides and poisons, acids, caustics and swimming pool chemicals. For items not listed, call to determine if the City will collect the item or how to properly dispose of it. Call 240-314-8568 for more information.

Large Metal Refuse? Schedule a Pick-up
To dispose of major metal items such as washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, metal sheds or metal swing sets, citizens must call the City in advance to schedule a special collection. Pickups of major items take place on Wednesdays and the reservation must be made by 3 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the day of collection. Calls are accepted at 240-314-8568 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday-Friday. Calls received on Wednesdays will be scheduled for the next Wednesday. Please do not place items at the curb unless you are instructed to do so. Call 240-314-8568 for more information.
