For 13th Consecutive Year The Rockville Channel (TRC 11) Wins National Award for Excellence in Government Programming
ROCKVILLE, Md., October 8, 2007 – The Rockville Channel (cable channel 11) was honored with a second-place award in the "Promotion of a City/County Department" category during the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) annual conference in Portland, Oregon last week. The honor recognizes the program Into the Blue: Rockville City Police Department.
This was the 13th consecutive year that TRC 11 has won a national award for its programming, despite competing in some categories against the cable channels of the nation's largest cities. The annual NATOA Government Programming Awards competition recognizes excellence in television, multimedia and electronic programming developed by municipal agencies. Programs are judged on content and creative elements, technical and engineering production elements and overall quality.
"This award is a great honor not only for TRC 11, but for all of the City departments and staff, and the Mayor and Council, who contribute to our coverage," said Doug Breisch, Rockville's television and telecommunications manager. "While the award was for a specific program, I believe it is representative of the generally consistent high quality and professionalism of all programs produced by the TRC staff."
Produced by Aaron Dawkins and Tony Plaia, the program started out as a relatively short recruiting video for police officers, but developed into a broader overview of the department and its divisions. This program is used for police recruiting purposes and also as an opportunity to inform City of Rockville residents and other TRC 11 viewers about the Rockville Police Department.
