ROCKVILLE, Md., February 29, 2008 – The Rockville City Planning Commission will begin formal worksessions on the draft zoning ordinance, the first one scheduled for March 5 at 7 p.m. in the Mayor and Council chambers in City Hall. The Commission will review all of the comments received since the draft was released in October 2007. This includes remarks received via E-mail, formal letters, and testimony and submissions from the public hearings held by the Planning Commission in January. This worksession is open to the public and will be televised on TRC 11 (Cable Channel 11).
“The first worksession will focus on ‘mansionization,’ which refers to large houses replacing more modest homes in communities and the unique challenges these neighborhoods face,” said Jim Wasilak, Rockville’s Chief of Planning. “Home-based business regulations and nonconformities, or properties that would no longer comply with the new regulations in residential zones also will be discussed.”
Dates for future worksessions are:
- Saturday, March 15, at 9 a.m. (Will focus on nonresidential nonconformities, including Stonestreet Avenue issues.) This worksession will not be televised on TRC 11.
- Wednesday, March 19 at 7 p.m.
- Wednesday, April 2 at 7 p.m. (This worksession will not be televised on TRC 11.)
- Wednesday, April 9 at 7 p.m.
- Wednesday, April 16 at 7 p.m.
All worksessions will be held at City Hall and are open to the public. Topics will be determined at a later date but will include discussion on the proposed mixed-use zones, nonconformity issues, and additional technical issues. Updates on the schedule and topics will be posted on the City's Web site at rockvillemd.gov. For more information, contact Jim Wasilak at (240) 221-8211. Rockville City Hall is located at 111 Maryland Ave., Rockville, Md. 20850.
