Springfield will Perform Free Concert on Sunday, May 25 as Part of Memorial Day Weekend Event in Rockville’s Town Center
ROCKVILLE, Md., March 19, 2008 – The Mayor and Council look forward to hosting musical icon Rick Springfield at this year’s 20th anniversary Hometown Holidays, the City’s renowned Memorial Day weekend celebration. Rock star Rick Springfield is the headliner for the popular free concert on Sunday, May 25; thousands of people from across the region are expected to attend.
Rick Springfield has sold more than 18 million records worldwide and has more than 17 Top 40 hits including more than five in the Top 10, and the #1 smash pop hit, “Jesse’s Girl.” In a career that has spanned more than 30 years, Rick Springfield has released several multi-platinum albums including, “Working Class Dog,” featuring the single, “Jesse’s Girl,” which earned him the Grammy for Best Vocal Male Performance in 1982. He recently released a Christmas album, “Christmas With You” and a live DVD entitled “Live in Rockford.” Springfield is working on a new album and performs more than 80 live shows a year.
Displaying artistic talents that reach beyond musical entertainment, Rick Springfield also is an actor, his most popular role as Dr. Noah Drake on the soap opera, General Hospital. An international talent recognized in the United States and abroad, Rick Springfield’s contribution to music and the arts makes him a notable figure in American popular culture.

Rick Springfield continues a tradition of high-quality entertainment that Hometown Holidays goers have come to expect from the largest Memorial Day weekend celebration in the Washington metropolitan area. More than 30,000 visitors are expected to flock to Rockville Town Center for this year’s landmark 20th anniversary Hometown Holidays celebration.
In addition to lively entertainment on seven stages featuring local bands, dancers, cultural entertainment and kid entertainers, the popular “Taste of Rockville” will return, featuring a variety of foods from Rockville’s many flavorful restaurants. The weekend celebration also features plenty of games and activities for young children, inviting families from around the area to take in the sites and sounds of Rockville’s downtown destination, Rockville Town Square. The VisArts Fine Arts Festival and a “Going Green and Recycling” event also will be featured.
Following Memorial Day ceremonies held in the Rockville Town Square Plaza, the weekend-long celebration will culminate with the 64th annual Rockville Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26. The parade route will proceed down Maryland Avenue, through Rockville Town Square.
