Rockville’s Annual Hometown Holidays Celebrating 20 Years of Family Fun On Memorial Day Weekend
Vanessa Carlton and Rick Springfield; Children’s Rides, Going Green Expo, ‘Taste of Rockville,’ Fine Arts Festival, and Much More

Hometown Holidays, the City of Rockville’s annual Memorial Day weekend celebration, will take place May 24-26 in Rockville Town Center. Now in its 20th year, Hometown Holidays offers something for people of all ages, from children’s activities, the annual “Taste of Rockville,” 40 performances from seven stages including free concerts by Vanessa Carlton on Saturday and Rick Springfield on Sunday.

More than 50,000 visitors are expected to join in the festivities for this weekend long event. All events, with the exception of children’s rides, are free to the public. Nationally known American soft rock/piano pop singer, songwriter and pianist Vanessa Carlton will perform Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. from the main stage, adjacent to East Montgomery Avenue. Performing Sunday night, also at 8:30 p.m. and from the main stage, is Rick Springfield, the popular rock star best known for the hit “Jessie’s Girl.”

Rockville Town Center will play host to various other events during Memorial Day weekend. New this year is the Going Green Expo. Meet numerous “green” exhibitors and learn more about green products ranging from counter-tops to recycled books and energy related products that help save our environment. The Expo is in Rockville Town Center on East Montgomery Avenue. Also new to Hometown Holidays is the VisArts Fine Arts Festival. Discover fine art at the festival, held Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Town Square. Up to 50 artists will display original art and crafts.

Musical lovers will enjoy the offerings from the seven Town Center stages that will feature a wide variety of musical entertainment throughout the day. The “Taste of Rockville” will celebrate the diversity and international culture of local restaurants and offer samples. Restaurant booths will line Maryland Avenue near East Middle Lane.

Plenty of activities for kids can be found at the Middle Lane parking lot such as a moon bounce, slides and other fun activities will be available for a fee. Puppet shows and other kid-focused entertainment can be found throughout Town Center on Saturday and Sunday.

Hometown Holidays will culminate with the 64th annual Rockville Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26 with a new parade route through Rockville Town Square.

More details on Hometown Holidays are available in the special insert in the June edition of Rockville Reports and on the City Web site at  www.rockvillemd.gov/events.
