Unused Electronics Collected for Recycling at City Hall June 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Helping the Environment with Proper Electronics Disposal
  
ROCKVILLE, Md., May 28, 2008 —Time to gather up old computers, hard drives, printers and other electronics collecting dust in basements or under beds. Together with
We Recycle Inc. Rockville is hosting a community-recycling event sponsored by Hewlett Packard on June 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at City Hall (111 Maryland Ave.) This event is open to any resident in the Rockville and Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

People are encouraged to drop off old electronics such as computers, laptops, scanners, monitors (no loose glass), household printers, VCRs, digital phones, and DVD players, etc. to be properly recycled. Staff and representatives from We Recycle Inc. will be on hand to help residents with bulk and heavy items.

Note however, the following items will not be collected: televisions, home appliances (microwaves, stoves, etc.) or items with refrigerants (refrigerators, air conditioners), household chemicals or other chemicals of any kind. These can be scheduled for curbside pickup by calling the City’s Department of Public Works at 240-314-8568. No equipment containing or have been in contact with any chemicals or liquids. No commercial or institutional materials accepted.

“This is a great service we are offering to our residents and neighbors in other areas of Montgomery County and beyond,” said Mark Charles, the City’s Chief of Environmental Management. “As stated in the Strategy for a Sustainable Rockville, the City seeks to promote and encourage actions by individual businesses and residents that are more sustainable and environmentally-sensitive. This event is a perfect example of us doing just that.”
