Citizens Can Sign Up for Real-Time Alerts on Weather, Traffic and Other Emergency Situations
ROCKVILLE, Md., July 2, 2008—Citizens can receive immediate notification on impending weather, traffic and other emergency situations by signing up for Rockville’s emergency alert system, “Alert Rockville.” The address to sign up is https://alert.rockvillemd.gov, and the service is free. Users can select alerts to be sent to one or all of the following devices: E-mail accounts (work, home, other), cell phone, text pager, Blackberry and wireless PDA.
Users can register to receive alerts about weather, countywide traffic (situations that usually involve road closures of two-to-three hours or more) or alerts about specific Rockville traffic. Messages also will be sent about major emergency situations. Montgomery County will provide the alerts regarding weather and countywide traffic.
While Alert Rockville is a free service, citizens who sign up to receive text messages may be charged a fee per message by their service provider. Please consult your wireless provider to review your carrier’s pricing plan.
