Rockville Municipal Swim Center to Close Thursday, Jan. 8
New Fitness Center and Meeting Room to Open  
 
ROCKVILLE, Md., Jan. 6, 2009 - The Rockville Municipal Swim Center will close Thursday, Jan. 8, as final upgrades associated with the new fitness center and meeting room are completed at the center.

Construction of a 6,000-square-foot, one-story addition to the Swim Center is nearing completion. It will house a 1,500-square-foot multi-purpose room that can accommodate meetings of up to 100 people, a 2,500-square-foot fitness center, new bathrooms, additional storage and a reconfigured lobby and reception area.
 
Construction for the $1.84 million project was approved by the Rockville Mayor and Council in February and began in March.
 
On Thursday, the Swim Center will close for electrical system upgrades associated with the project. All programs at the center are canceled for the day. The center will reopen for regularly scheduled hours and programs on Friday, Jan. 9.
 
The fitness center and meeting room is expected to open in the spring.
