Rockville Resident Stan Pawlowski Named "GoodSport"

ROCKVILLE, Md., Jan. 16 - The City of Rockville has named resident Stan Pawlowski its recipient of the Mid-Atlantic Recreation and Parks' Sports Alliance (MRPSA) GoodSports Award. Pawlowski will be recognized at the annual MRPSA recognition ceremony Monday, Feb. 2, at the Maryland State House in Annapolis.

The event includes recognition of recipients during the evening's General Assembly session as well as a reception.

Pawlowski, head track and field coach in Rockville's youth sports program, started coaching youth sports when his then six-year-old son played soccer. After assisting his daughter's track coach beginning in 1987, Pawlowski assumed the head coach position in 1992. He also belongs to the Montgomery County Road Runner's Club and regularly races in and volunteers at local races. Pawlowski retired from the Federal Drug Administration and now works as a para-educator at Magruder High School where he assists the cross country and indoor track teams. His emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship and respect has had a positive influence on the young men and women he has coached through the years

"Good sportsmanship is something the Recreation and Parks Department promotes in every program we offer," said Lou Clark, Sports Specialist. "Stan is a wonderful example of the type of person that takes advantage of our recreation opportunities. We are very proud that he is being recognized in this manner."

The MRPSA is a consortium of recreation and parks departments, organizations representing sports officials and sport governing bodies in the region. The alliance's mission is to develop and promote a code of conduct that promotes GoodSports for players, coaches and spectators.

The event, co-sponsored by Maryland's Speaker of the House Michael E. Busch, will begin at 7 p.m. Delegates representing participating jurisdictions will be on hand to assist with the award presentations. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony. The State House is located at 100 State Circle, Annapolis, Md.
