Community Invited to Celebrate Opening of Thomas Farm Community Center
First Community Center West of I-270 Welcomes Residents with Reception and Children's Activities
ROCKVILLE, Md., March 16, 2009- The City of Rockville's newest community center will welcome residents with a ribbon cutting ceremony and family-friendly celebration on Saturday, March 21.
The event is planned for 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.at the Thomas Farm Community Center, 700 Fallsgrove Drive, near the intersection of MD 28 and Gude Drive.
The ceremony will feature a ribbon cutting with the Mayor and Council, and dedication of the building and "Magnet," a kinetic sculpture by Charlotte Lees, newly installed in the center's lobby.
"We are very proud of Thomas Farm and think our residents will love it," said Mayor Susan R. Hoffmann. "The City has been working for many years to build a community center on the west side of town and this beautiful new building will serve our residents for a long time to come. We are especially proud of the environmentally-sensitive elements in the center's construction and operation."
The Rockville Mayor and Council will be at the event, as well as other representatives from state and county government.
The day's activities will also feature a reception, tours of the facility, class and fitness demonstrations, musical entertainment, and children's activities, including a moonbounce, face painting, mini-golf, and games.
"Our grand opening celebration is going to be a lot of fun for everyone," said Martha Coester, Thomas Farm Community Center supervisor. "The games, entertainment and demonstrations we have lined up will really give people a taste of all the different things we offer here at the center."
